10 things you can do that would immediately improve social media
1. Assume the best of those who disagree with you rather than the worst.
2. Resist the urge to engage in ad hominem attacks; it makes you look petty and juvenile.
3. Be quick to say "I'm sorry" or "I was wrong".
4. Be skeptical of only believing articles or information that fit your existing narrative.
5. Ask yourself often "Would I say this directly to this person's face?"
6. Enter discussions/debates with humility, recognizing that there are limits to your knowledge and life experience.
7. Most people have reasons for what they believe. Even if you disagree, it helps to listen and understand what those reasons are.
8. If everything boils down to "your side" vs "their side", you are doing it wrong. Seek the truth first rather than "winning".
9. Seek out relationships with people you disagree with. Your life likely will be enriched as will theirs. Listen to them with an open heart.
10. Social media is exactly what you or I make of it. If it sucks, that's on us. And it's on us to improve it.
