U.S. Government on Privacy: "Just Trust Us"
Off the AP wire this morning:
Privacy no longer can mean anonymity, says Donald Kerr, the principal deputy director of national intelligence. Instead, it should mean that government and businesses properly safeguards people's private communications and financial information.
So let me get this straight. We can't expect to have privacy anymore, but that's ok because it is going to be the government and business entrusted with information about us.
Aren't most privacy issues centered around the government checking up on us?
I place the blame squarely on Republicans for making everything about terrorism and being willing to sacrifice anything including our freedom for the sake of the "War On Terrorism".

Republicans?
Blame Republicans? I just disagree with such a blanket blame game. Weren't democrats elected to get out of Iraq? Have they even tried? Didn't Democrats vote for the Patriot act without even reading the damned thing?
I'm not saying Republicans aren't to blame. I'm saying Democrats were there too, playing along with the whole damn thing.
In fact, of the one hundred votes cast for the Patriot Act ALL republicans voted "YEA". One democrat chose not to vote. And one Democrat voted "Nay". That's a pretty even spread.
And in the House nearly all Republicans voted for the Patriot Act (the Dems were pretty much the only opposition) nearly 2/3s of Dems voted FOR the Act. So even if the Dems controlled 100% of the House & The Senate, the Patriot Act would have gone through!!!
You can blame who you want, but nearly all of the fools are guilty.
In fact, of the current presidential nominees only Kucinich and Paul voted against it. Clinton and Edwards both voted "Yea". Obama, obviously, can deny whatever he likes....he wasn't in the Senate yet.
