Governor Richardson love

Three things to note on the Richardson for '08 campaign today.

  1. The first is that seventy prominent Nevadans called on New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson today to seek the Presidency.
  2. Jonathan Singer, over at MyDD, has an excellent post about Richardson Staking Out Position as Candidate with Foreign Policy Credentials.
  3. Jonathan Martin, from the conservative National Review Online, gives as close to a recommendation as I've ever seen for a Democratic candidate with "But the past two occupants of the Oval Office are a testament to the fact that personal flaws need not be a bar to the presidency. And, hey, they didn’t have anywhere near this guy’s foreign-policy experience."

Election experience

Does the fact that Richardson has never really had much a challenge in his elections matter?

Yes, and so does....

...the fact that he's from a sparsely populated state which is effectively in the middle of nowhere and that he has NOTHING of a national presence among voters and that there isn't a snowball's chance in a New Mexico summer of him coming close to HRC or Obama in the primaries. Expat is the 2008 version of Howard Dean supporters - only with less evidence to actually suggest his candidate can pull it off.

Election experience and guru's lame reasons

Will,

I don't know what you mean. Is it a concern they he hasn't had much of a challenge in his elections with regards to running a nationwide election or his ability to do the job?

I'm not concerned that Richardson hasn't had any challengers as it will effect the national campaign. He is an experienced politician and his background has been explored and exploited. He's a Democrat in a swing state. If there was something there, he'd have been a target. As he wasn't assures me that he can run a campaign without any skeletons in the closet.

I, also, don't have any concerns about his lack of electoral challengers as it pertains to his ability to govern and administer. He has a high approval rating across the political spectrum in New Mexico. He has a resume that screams breadth and depth in policy and experience.

As far as gurufrisbee's lame excuses, Richardson doesn't have name recognition now - 1 year from the Iowa caucuses. Considering how long a year is in politics and how fast the newscycle is now, Richardson can quickly become a recognized name.

You can disparage New Mexico for being 'sparsely populated', but it does have just about 2 million people. That makes it 36th in the Union. It isn't monolithic. It has the right mix. Urban population around Albuquerque at 1/2 a million. A rural population with concerns about land use and governmental intrusions. A low-wage labor market, a high-tech labor market. A front line for immigration.

Richardson has had to deal with many of the issues America has to deal with. And he has done it well!

Gee, resorting to calling something "lame"

...instead of actually recognizing the arguments themselves. Pretty weak course of action Expat.

Instead of resorting to this juvenille, school yard type of response, why don't you do something to actually show that Richardson is gaining any national position or coming even in the same league as HRC or Obama. A year isn't that long - not when you are so far behind the top two that no one is even bothering to wonder if you're in third place or if some other nobody is.
