Cynthia McKinney for President!

This post is mostly for Will. I know he'll get a kick out of it...

The Nation has an article about a meeting of the Green Party to discuss their 2008 plans.

The Green Party's national meeting in Reading, Pa., highlighted the fact that there are a good many Americans who want an alternative to the often disappointing choices offered them by the Republican and Democratic parties..

It is no secret that there are Greens who would like to see a "name" candidate like Nader or McKinney as the party's presidential nominee in 2008, and some who would like to see the two maverick political figures team up as a Nader-McKinney or McKinney-Nader ticket...

McKinney was similarly circumspect. The former congresswoman's not a candidate yet, she said, but she is talking seriously to a number of Green activists. And, McKinney added, she too is getting plenty of encouragement to make the race.

That was evident in Reading on Sunday, when McKinney's speech was greeted with chants of "Run, Cynthia, run!"

Ok, now pick yourself up off the floor and when you stop laughing, discuss.

I voted for Nader last time

I think CM on the ticket is going to interfere w/my ability to support a 3rd party option. I voted for RN in 2000. I was for GWB winning and knew he'd carry Alabama w/o my help. Therefore, I thought "why not support 3rd party". Perhaps if they get more votes, we can get past the two party system of "under republicans, it's man's inhumanity to man, under democrats it's the reverse".

As we all know, there isn't a viable 3rd party out there. The Green party would do better to put Lindsay Lohan on the ticket. At least that way, more folks would pay attention. The sad thing is that she's not 35, so we'll have to wait 16 more years for this to work.

In the meantime, does anyone see a 3rd or 4th party ever bringing anything serious to the table [other than Ron Paul]?

Huh?

Cynthia's about as Green as a 10-year-old Suburban sitting in a parking deck on a Monsanto cornfield that's being gnawed on by BGH-filled, genetically modified cows with old computer parts strapped to their backs.

It's just not her bag, baby!

Call me cynical, but I think there may just be the slightest whiff of mere political opportunism here.
