Obama & Clinton "tied"

The latest USA Today / Gallup poll of Democrats nationwide has Hillary Clinton leading with 31% and Barack Obama close behind with 26%.

The margin of error is plus-or-minus 5%.

I'd like to see momentum behind this meme. Its dissemination will facilitate continued closure of the Democratic field.

Kissinger: Military victory not possible

Off the wires:

"A 'military victory' in the sense of total control over the whole territory, imposed on the entire population, is not possible," [Henry] Kissinger told The Associated Press in Tokyo, where he received an honorary degree from Waseda University.

For those of us still stuck on the idea that the U.S. can emerge from Iraq with dignity solely, or even primarily, by the use of force, I think a candid assessment of real circumstances might be sobering.

Two of the three leading Republican candidates for President either embrace or are open to embracing the idea that the President can imprison Americans without any review, based solely on the unchecked decree of the President. And, of course, that is nothing new, since the current Republican President not only believes he has that power but has exercised it against U.S. citizens and legal residents in the U.S. -- including those arrested not on the "battlefield," but on American soil.
