In an pretty innocuous CNN article about education, they have this quote:

Congressional Democrats say when they take the gavel from Republicans next month, they will put money in the pockets of college students and closely examine a law reforming elementary and secondary schools.

How they will pay for their plans isn't clear.

(emphasis mine) Nothing drives me crazier than the assumption that Democrats spend beyond their wildest dreams. That is a idea rooted in the 1980s and certainly doesn't reflect the post-Clinton, post-Rubin Democratic Party.

You don't see articles about Republican tax cuts or wars with the question of "how will they pay for it?" even though the Bush-led Republican Party has spent beyond their wildest dreams. Can we kill that meme and move on now? Democrats are for paying the bills and balancing the budgets and the Republican Party are for borrowing from our grandkids.
